Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has exceeded turnover of one lakh crore rupees in 2021-22.
Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Ministry highlighted that it is the first time when KVIC clocked a massive turnover of one lakh fifteen thousand crore rupees, and has beaten all FMCG companies in the country.
The Ministry informed that, in the Financial Year of 2021-22, the overall turnover of KVIC stood at a whopping over one lakh fifteen thousand crore rupees as compared to over ninety five thousand seven hundred crore rupees in the Financial Year of 2020-21.
KVIC has thus registered a growth of over twenty percent from the year 2020-21.
Law Minister Kiren Rijiju has informed Judicial Infrastructure Development Authority will be formed at state level to strengthen the Judicial infrastructure of the country.
He said, the resolution regarding this was passed during the Joint Conference of Chief Ministers of the States and Chief Justices of High Courts in New Delhi today.
 Mr Rijiju said this, while addressing a joint press conference with Chief Justice of India N V Ramana in New Delhi this evening. Mr Rijiu clarified that during the conference held yesterday many resolutions were passed, and one of them was to establish a National Judicial Infrastructure Development Authority.
But some of the Chief Ministers could not agree on this, and insisted on constituting a committee at the state level because the implementation as well execution of works lie with the state government.
The Minister said, the Chief Ministers and Chief Justices have later agreed that the body will be created at the state level with the involvement of the CMs and Chief Justices or their nominees. Mr Rijiju said, when the Chief Ministers and Chief Justices come together, many things can be settled.
 Chief Justice of India N V Ramana has said lack of infrastructure is one of the main causes of delaying in delivering Justice. Chief Justice said, effective steps will be taken to ensure the clearing of cases pending for more than five years.
Former Bangladesh Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith passed away in Dhaka on Saturday after a brief illness. He was 88.
President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock over the demise of Muhith. In his condolence message President Hamid said Muhith played an important role in laying a strong foundation of the country’s economy during his tenure as finance minister.
Prime Minister Hasina in her message said that the Independence Award winning economist and politician will be remembered through his works.
People from all walks of life paid tributes to the former finance minister at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka where his body was kept for the public to pay their respect. His body will be taken to his birthplace in Sylhet for burial.
AMA Muhith was widely acclaimed as an economist, diplomat and a bureaucrat. He was also a veteran of the language movement and freedom fighter. He was one of the country’s longest serving finance ministers who steered Bangladesh to become a successful, high growth economy.
 Among his many achievements he is credited with mobilising domestic resources for the prestigious Padma bridge after the World Bank withdrew its proposed USD 1.2 billion dollar funding.
Born in 1934 in Sylhet, he studied English literature at Dhaka University and later at Oxford University. He joined Pakistan Civil service and was posted at the Washington embassy at the time of the liberation war of 1971. He rebelled against the Pakistan government and declared his support for Bangladesh. He first became Finance and Planning minister in 1982-82.
He became Finance Minister again in 2009 as a member of Awami League. He authored several books in his long career.
Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mndaviya has said that over 60 per cent of youngsters between 12 to 14 age group have received the 1st dose of COVID19 vaccine.
In a tweet, Dr Mandaviya has congratulated all the youngsters who got vaccinated.
 The free of cost COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12 to 14 years began on 16th of last month.
Health Ministry said, more than two crore 86 lakh adolescents have been administered with the first dose and around 66 lakh have received the second dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

Sri Lanka’s president has agreed to replace his elder brother as Prime Minister in a proposed interim government to solve a political impasse caused by the country’s worst economic crisis in decades.
 According to the law makers, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa agreed that a national council will be appointed to name a new Prime Minister and Cabinet comprised of all parties in Parliament, lawmaker Maithripala Sirisena said after meeting with the president.
 Sirisena, who was president before Rajapaksa, was a governing party lawmaker before defecting earlier this month along with nearly 40 other legislators.
 Sri Lanka is near bankruptcy and has announced it is suspending payments on its foreign loans. It has to repay $7 billion in foreign debt this year, and $25 billion by 2026. Its foreign reserves stand at less than $1 billion.
 The foreign exchange shortage has severely limited imports, forcing people to wait in long lines to buy essentials such as food, fuel, cooking gas and medicine.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that New India is touching new dimensions and making an impact on the world. He said, Covid pandemic is the biggest example of this. He said, at the start of the pandemic, some people were suspicious about the country’s ability to tackle this pandemic, but now the country has emerged as the biggest vaccine maker in the world. He said, now the people are giving the example of India. Mr. Modi said, India has also emerged as one of the largest startup ecosystems in the world during this period.

Addressing the delegation, the Prime Minister lauded the role and efforts of the Sikh community in the development of the country. He said, the community has played a vital role in strengthening the bond between India and other countries.
 Remembering the contributions made by Sikh Gurus, the Prime Minister said, they have taught courage and instilled the spirit of service among the people. He said, Guru Nanak Dev ji awakened the consciousness of the entire nation and brought the entire nation out of darkness by showing the path of light. He said, Sikh tradition is actually a living tradition of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.
 The Prime Minister highlighted the various initiatives taken by the government for connecting the pilgrimages of Sikh tradition with better infrastructure. He said, today, lakh of devotees are getting the privilege of paying obeisance at the Gurdwaras linked by Kartarpur Sahib Corridor.
Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and other dignitaries were also present there. The group included people from different walks of life.
Lieutenant General Baggavalli Somashekar Raju will take over as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff on May 1st. An alumnus of Sainik School Bijapur and National Defence Academy, he was commissioned in the JAT Regiment on 15th December 1984.
He commanded his Battalion during OP PARAKRAM in the Western Theatre and in Jammu and Kashmir. He also holds the distinction of commanding the Uri brigade along the Line of Control, a Counter Insurgency Force and the Chinar Corps in the Kashmir Valley.
Lt Gen Raju is also a qualified helicopter pilot . For his illustrious contribution to the service, he has been awarded Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Yudh Seva Medal.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that government is reducing the Central excise duty on Petrol by 8 rupees per litre and on Diesel by 6 rupees per litre. This will reduce the price of petrol by 9.5 rupees per litre and of Diesel by 7 rupees per litre she said in a series of tweets.
She said it will have revenue implication of around 1 lakh crore rupees per year for the government. The Finance Minister exhorted all state governments, especially the states where reduction was not done during the last round in November last year, to also implement a similar cut and give relief to the common man.


She also announced that this year, government will give a subsidy of 200 rupees per gas cylinder upto 12 cylinders to over 9 crore beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. This will have a revenue implication of around 6100 crore rupees a year. Government is also reducing the customs duty on raw materials and intermediaries for plastic products where country’s import dependence is high. This will result in reduction of cost of final products.

Ms Sitharaman said similarly, customs duty is being calibrated on raw materials and intermediaries for iron and steel to reduce their prices. Import duty on some raw materials of steel will be reduced.


Export duty on some steel products will be levied. She said measures are being taken up to improve the availability of Cement and through better logistics to reduce the cost of cement.

The Finance Minister said that Narendra Modi government is devoted to the welfare of the poor and has taken a number of steps to help the poor and middle class. She said that as a result of these initiatives, the average inflation during this government’s tenure has remained lower than during previous governments. She said the world is passing through difficult times today due to Covid and Ukraine conflict have brought in supply chain problems and shortages of various goods. The Minister pointed out that this has resulted in inflation and economic distress in a lot of countries.


She said even during the pandemic, NDA government set a paradigm of welfare, especially with PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. She added that this is now acknowledged and appreciated the world over. The Minister asserted that despite the challenging international situation, government has ensured that there is no shortage of essential goods. She said even a few developed countries could not escape some shortages and disruptions. She stressed that Narendra Modi government is committed to ensure that prices of essential items are kept under control.

Despite rising fertilizer prices globally, the Minister highlighted that the government has protected farmers from such price hikes. In addition to the fertilizer subsidy of 1.05 lakh crore rupees in the budget, an additional amount of 1.10 lakh crore rupees is being provided to further cushion country’s farmers. Ms Sitharaman stated that Prime Minister Modi has specifically asked all arms of the government to work with sensitivity and give relief to the common man.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Japan on a two day visit to participate in the Quad Leaders' Summit in Tokyo. 

Apart from participating in the Quad Summit on Tuesday, Mr Modi will hold bilateral meetings with US President Joe Biden, Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese, and Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida. Tomorrow, Mr Modi will engage with the Japanese business community and the Indian diaspora. The upcoming Quad Summit in Tokyo will provide an opportunity to take stock of the progress made so far on Quad's initiatives and also give guidance for the future. 
 
#Prime Minister Modi will have a bilateral meeting with US President Biden. Prime Minister’s meeting with President Biden will mark continuation of these high level dialogues and provide guidance and vision to take the relationship forward.
 
Mr Modi will also meet his Japanese counterpart on the sidelines of the Summit. 
This meeting will be an opportunity to carry forward the high level engagement between the two countries as also to advance bilateral cooperation agenda.  
 

In the bilateral meeting with the Australian Prime Minister, the two leaders would review the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and exchange views on regional and global developments of mutual interest

In his opening remarks at the Summit, PM Narendra Modi says Quad has made an important place for itself before the world in such a short span of time. Today, Quad's scope has become extensive. He said the mutual trust and determination of Quad nations is giving new energy and enthusiasm to democratic powers. Mr Modi stressed that at the Quad level, with mutual cooperation, a free, open and inclusive Indo Pacific Region is getting encouraged. He called it the shared goal of all Quad countries.
New Quad fellowship programme launched today at the QUADSummit in Tokyo. 

This is a first-of-its-kind scholarship program that will bring together the top minds of Australia, India, Japan, and the United States in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The Fellowship will sponsor one hundred students per year, 25 from each Quad country, to pursue masters and doctoral degrees at leading STEM graduate universities in the United States. 


In his message, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, the Quad fellowship programme is a wonderful and unique initiative. He said, this prestigious fellowship will offer our students great opportunities to pursue graduate and doctorate programmes in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Mr Modi said, it will encourage academic excellence and promote people to people linkages between our countries. The Prime Minister encouraged Indian students to apply for the Quad Fellowship programme and join the next generation of STEM leaders and innovators building a better future for humanity.

The Annual Meeting of World Economic Forum began on Sunday at Davos in Switzerland. The City is hosting the event yet again after a gap of nearly two-and-a-half years. The meeting will continue till May 26. Global leaders, including from India, will participate in the international event.
 
Meanwhile, talking to a TV Channel, WEF's President Borge Brende said that for India things look better while other countries are beginning to struggle. He said that India is likely to grow at 8 per cent and looks better placed. WEF's Executive Committee member Sean de Cleene said that the forum is looking at significant food production challenges across the world. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will lead the Indian delegation at the five-day meet.
 
The delegation will include Health and Family Welfare Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Chief Ministers and Senior Ministers of six states - Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Telangana. Several industry leaders will also participate in the deliberations of World Economic Forum. 
 
This event would further help reinforce country's position as an important and relevant stakeholder in shaping the global narrative, particularly as India assumes Presidency of the G-20 next year.
