Exercise 1.1
Is zero a rational number?can you write it in the form p/q,where p and q are integers and q≠0?
Find six rational numbers between 3 and 4.
Solution :22/7,23/7,24/7,25/7,26/7,27/7 are the six rational numbers between 3 and 4.
Explanation since 3= {3/(6+1)}(6+1)=21/7
4= {4/(6+1)}(6+1)=28/7
22/7,23/7,24/7,25/7,26/7,27/7 lies between 3 and 4
So 22/7,23/7,24/7,25/7,26/7,27/7 are the six rational numbers between 3 and 4.
Find six rational numbers between 3/5 and 4/5.
3/5=(3/5)7/7=21/35
4/5=(4/5)7/7=28/35
Since 21<22<23<24<25<26<27<28
So 21/35,22/35,23/35,24/35,25/35,26/35,27/35 are the six rational numbers between 3/5 and 4/5.
State whether the following statements are true or false.Give reasons for your answers.
i) Every natural number is a whole number.
True
Because all natural number including zero formed whole number set.
ii) Every integer is a whole number.
False
Because whole number doesn't include negative natural numbers.
iii) Every rational numbers is a whole number.
