Key features of the Pitts India Act,1784

  1. This gave the British Government supreme control over company's affairs and it's administration in India.
  2. Established dual system of governance.There 24 members in the court of directors to care about company's commercial functions.
  3. Strength of governor general council reduced to 3.
  4. To control civil, military and revenue affairs of India Board of Control consisting of 6 parliamentary commissioners appointed.
  5. This act subordinated the Bombay and Madras presidency to Bengal in all questions of war,diplomacy and revenues.
  6. First Effective substitution of Parliamentary control over East India company.
